“Dr Quantum - Flatland” and other multi-dimensional explanations are great analogies (the stories such as they relate to physical or theoretical phenomena). But I think they may just be that - analogies.
Higher dimensionality explanations in mathematics & physics feel like a framework to me. I mean framework in the sense of “let’s use this meta-structure to describe observations.” This is not a bad thing. I’m trying to think of an analogy for what I mean (because I think higher dimensionality explanations might be analogies themselves, I want to try to explain how that would be).
Consider a set of observables. Take human behavior. You can sit human behavior down in a biological (physical) framework or you can sit human behavior down in a religious (transcendental) framework.
Both frameworks “offer explanations” for phenomena in the observable (human behavior). One is “more correct” or “tightly corroborative” than the other. As such, the physical framework is composed of reducibles that can be broken out and studied separately, and are themselves observables, tightly corroborative, and reducible (recursively). That suggests that at least we are on the right path. The transcendental is missing all of these qualities (its “rule set” is likely based on some religious text, or some drunk and convincing philosopher, or whatever).
However, the point of the analogy is that both the physical and the transcendental have a set of “rules” that establish a “framework” of interaction (a “physics”). The difference is of course that the physical is a more rigorous approach. My analogy does not extend to include the rigor of the meta-structure, because in the case of higher dimensionality, I am not pitting it against any other framework. But I’m using this dichotomy of physical vs transcendental to tease out the concept of a meta-structure (or framework) in which to sit phenomena and derive explanations of observables. Fuck, my language is not cautious enough to convey what I’m trying to say.
Addendum: you can reason about the hypothetical differences among the 1, 2 and 3 dimensional experiences. If you presuppose this to be a logical and extendible thing to do, you will then conjecture on the transition of experiences on toward higher dimensions (4th, or 5th - an entity for which time can be navigated as we navigate 3 dimensional space, for instance). However it should give one substantial pause— this piece right here— that to be able to reason about differences in dimensional experiences is even accurate. Dimensionality in the sense it is used in this type of “philosophy” is an abstraction gleaned from casual observation. There exists the distinct possibility that this construct is incorrect, just as we have reasoned from casual experience the causation of the common cold (that being, we are sick when the weather is cold, do the cold causes it). With more data, the model changes, and the causative factors emerge, at least with mite resolution.
This is a phenomenon corroborated over time.

Who would’ve thought? Programmable Web has a list of APIs that have real estate and maps data. How cool is this? There is even a Walkability API. I should automate a checker that looks across data from these APIs and filters by a set of criteria (including latitude and longitude), and if anything matches within an area that I like, I can have it alert us. Might be an entry point to the whole geo-spatial genre…
